Industrial Engineering (IE) is the discipline of streamlining manufacturing and other industrial systems to ensure maximum efficiency and quality at minimum cost. IE is concerned with improving quality, affordability, productivity, safety, and environmental compatibility in manufacturing and service industries. Industrial engineers observe processes, identify strengths and weaknesses, and make improvements. They find the best way for companies and organizations to produce goods and provide services for organizations such as airlines, hospitals, government agencies, manufacturing industries, and universities.

Grade Requirements

Each student earns the BSIE degree by meeting all Florida A&M University (FAMU) - Florida State University (FSU) general university requirements, all College of Engineering requirements, and all Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Departmental requirements. These requirements reflect the engineering accreditation standards of ABET, the accreditation body for engineering programs.

In addition to University and college requirements regarding grades and grade point average (GPA), the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering requires that the IE major achieve a grade of "C" or higher for all required IE courses.
