The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering is not only the most diverse engineering school but it is steadily moving up the ranks in the publication’s newest report

The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, the nation’s only joint engineering college shared between two institutions—Florida A&M and Florida State universities—gained seven points in the annual graduate and professional programs rankings by U.S. News & World Report’s 2019 edition of “Best Graduate Schools.”

The Fourth Annual Transportation Day was held at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering (COE) on December 8, 2017. In spite of inclement weather, attendance included more than 80 faculty and students from the affiliated universities, along with community members and representatives from state and local agencies who work with transportation and/or aging populations.

Garit Poire serves as graduate adviser to the FAMU-FSU joint chapter of ACI-ASCE-FES. As an undergraduate, Poire held multiple leadership roles in the joint chapter, including treasurer and president. In his role as graduate adviser, he has worked tirelessly to motivate and assist chapter members, getting students involved in outreach and networking activities, such as Legislative Days and the Clay Shoot Fundraiser/Networking Event.

Rising high school seniors are spending their summer getting a head start on the college experience through a unique Florida State University program that allows them to get a taste of college science and math classes.

The Florida State University Young Scholars program, founded in 1983, brings 40 students to campus from mid-June to mid-July where they spend six weeks living and learning on campus. Some students are learning about genetics, while others study geology and others check out computer programming with more than 20 faculty members across the campus.

We know tropical storms and hurricanes are coming. While heading into the weeks of high risk and preparation for the worst, we need to take steps to include older adults in community and organizational plans. With pro-active planning, we can make sure no senior is left without assistance.

Professor Raphael Kampmann strives to forge unique and beneficial opportunities for his engineering students. As a civil engineer from Germany, he has crafted programs abroad that provide experiential and hands-on learning for his students. For the past five years he has used his academic connections to create internship opportunities in Germany for FAMU-FSU Engineering students. 

Hurricane tracks can be erratic. Sometimes storms change directions, they wobble, or move in an unpredictable path that can pose unique challenges for evacuees. 

Now, two FAMU-FSU College of Engineering faculty members have received a $500,000 National Science Foundation grant to develop several models that address integrated coastal hazards and how the uncertainty of a hurricane track can affect evacuation practices. 

FAMU-FSU College of Engineering civil and environmental engineering professor Clayton J. Clark II, P.E. was awarded the 2018 Research Excellence Award by Florida A&M University in honor of the grants he has acquired for the college. This year alone--and due to Clark’s efforts--FAMU received three continuing grants and three new grants from organizations including the National Science Foundation ($404,000) and the U.S.

For the fourth year, the FSU Graduate School will conduct the Three-Minute Thesis™ (3MT) Finalist Competition at 6:00 PM, November 27, 2018, in the Durell Peaden Auditorium, FSU College of Medicine.
