The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering recognized two faculty members with awards at its student-faculty banquet on April 17 at Tallahassee’s Sittig Center. Those awards went to Kamal Tawfiq, in recognition of his service as department chair and to Jerry Wekezer for lifetime contributions to the department.
Civil Engineering: Kristine Obenour
Kristine Obenour serves as graduate adviser to the FAMU-FSU joint chapter of ACI-ASCE-FES. As an undergraduate, she served as president of the joint chapter. Upon graduation, she joined the Master of Engineering program at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, taking a full course load while working fulltime at Barkley Consulting Engineers, Inc.
Seven engineering students accepted into FSU's Garnet & Gold Scholar Society
In perhaps the largest single admittance in recent history, seven FAMU-FSU Engineering students were accepted into the prestigious FSU Garnet & Gold Scholar Society at the end of the Spring 2018 term. The students were inducted into the honor society during a special ceremony Thursday, April 26.
Engineering student awarded highly selective Hollings Scholarship
A FAMU-FSU Engineering student was chosen from a competitive pool of national applicants to receive the Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship from the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
As a Hollings Scholar, FSU rising junior Jennifer Magi will receive an award that includes up to $19,000 of academic assistance over two years and a 10-week, full-time paid summer internship at a NOAA research facility of her choosing.
Magi, was one of two FSU scholars to receive the award, along with Anna Wuest.

FAMU-FSU College of Engineering ACSE student chapter wins big at regional awards, celebrates locally at annual department banquet
In mid-March 2018, Dr. Raphael Kampmann, faculty adviser for the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering’s American Society for Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter, received a handful of very exciting letters from the professional society.
The communiques announced that the student chapter had earned not only one, but four national awards for ASCE student chapters. In addition, the chapter was nominated for the prestigious Ridgway Award, which is awarded to the single most outstanding Student Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
