College mourns loss of electrical and computer engineering faculty

Thomas Harrison, Ph.D. passed away on the morning of Dec. 17, 2018 in Tallahassee. Dr. Harrison was an electrical engineering professor at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering and was the chair of the electrical and computer engineering department from 1988 to 1996. Before joining academia, he was an engineer at IBM.

Simon Foo, Ph.D., Harrison's colleague in the department and also a former chair, said of him:

We are pleased to announce that starting today construction crews will begin work on three major construction projects. In response to your requests and suggestions, we are improving: 1) FAMU-FSU Engineering hardscaping/landscaping, 2) Building A parking lot lights, and  3) Compressed gas cylinder storage facility.
 

FSU UG engineering students will have until 11:00 a.m. on May 5th to select S/U vs letter grades for undergraduate engineering courses

The deadline for FSU students to change the grading type for their FSU undergraduate engineering courses is extended to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5.  (The deadline for non-engineering courses is not being extended.)

The request process and reason for this extension are explained below.

Gibson announces plan to step down as Dean, FAMU-FSU College of Engineering

J. Murray Gibson, dean of the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, today announced his plans to step down in December to spend the last years of his career as a faculty member in the college carrying out research, teaching and service. 

Gibson joined the college as dean on July 1, 2016. He led during a period of remarkable growth in the college and its external reputation. The college jumped up 51 points in rankings last year and is now the second-highest ranked engineering school in Florida, according to US News and World Report. 

FAMU-FSU Engineering appoints a new Dean’s Advisory Council

J. Murray Gibson, dean of the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, announced the appointment of a group of leading industry and alumni engineering professionals to a new Dean’s Advisory Council. These 15 individuals represent a broad array of backgrounds and technical expertise, yet they share the goal of enhancing the education and investment in multicultural engineers that embodies the joint college’s mission.

2018 Annual Donor Recognition and Student Awards Ceremony

This year the Donor Recognition and Student Awards Ceremony at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering continued the college’s long-standing tradition of bringing together many generous friends with the students who directly benefit from their support. Meeting with the donors for the first time is always emotional for the recipients who are so thankful for the funding and the donors who get to see the warm smile of a promising young person getting to pursue his or her dream.
