New Engineering Faculty for Fall 2023

Several new faculty across four departments joined our ranks this semester, including a very esteemed hire in Rams Ramamoorthy as a Professor in chemical and biomedical engineering and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory. 

 

Alexandre Berger, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering

Alexandre Berger completed his Ph.D. at Texas A&M University. His research focus is experimental hypersonic boundary layer transition. As a new faculty at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, Assistant Professor Berger expects to continue this research and develop novel flow diagnostic methods for implementation in FCAAP facilities.

Jeffrey Farner, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Civil & Environmental Engineering

Assistant Professor Farner completed his Ph.D., in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Duke University, in 2016. His research interests include environmental nanotechnology, micro- and nanoplastics, water treatment and photochemistry. Faculty profile

Qianwen (Vivian) Guo, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Civil & Environmental Engineering

Assistant Professor Guo attended the Joint Ph.D. Program in Civil Engineering, Cornell University, and earning her Ph.D., Management Science and Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Her research interests include public transit, transportation resilience, shared mobility and transportation infrastructure investment. Faculty profile

Gideon Nnaji, Ph.D., Teaching Faculty II, Civil & Environmental Engineering

Nnaji earned a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at Florida A&M University, in 2012. His research interests include statistical predictions of natural hazards and risks, climate change impact on the built environment and sustainable infrastructure management. Faculty profile

Sol Park, Ph.D., Teaching Faculty I, Civil & Environmental Engineering

Park earned her Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2021. Her research interests include the causes & treatment of emerging contaminants in water systems; design of novel water filtration systems; experimental techniques for analysis of antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARBs); experimental techniques for analysis of antibiotic-resistant genes (ARGs); and development of policies & protocols for water treatment.

Ayyalusamy (Rams) Ramamoorthy, Ph.D., Professor, Chemical & Biomedical Engineering

Professor Ramamoorthy was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia from 1993-1996, after earning a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1990. Among his many awards is being elected ISMAR Fellow (2023) and elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (2018). He is known for his research in Alzheimer’s Disease, Type-2 Diabetes, ALS and HIV, biocondensation and LLPS, self-assembly, nanodiscs, functional polymer materials, protein aggregation and membrane proteins and NMR. Abdulrahman Takiddin, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Electrical & Computer Engineering

Assistant Professor Takiddin earned a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M University in 2023. His research interests include artificial intelligence, machine learning, cyber-physical systems, cybersecurity, smart grid and bioinformatics. Faculty profile
