With excitement in the air, students from the department of civil and environmental engineering (CEE) at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering had an opportunity to demonstrate their skills at the Fall Senior Design Day.
The event was held within the department and showcased presentations of various projects and prototypes by students in front of a panel of judges. A larger, college-wide event happens annually at the end of the spring semester.
Senior Design Day is a signature engineering capstone experience for students that helps them develop the proficiencies needed to advance their engineering skills to real-life problems. CEE students focus on providing creative solutions for civil engineering design projects to present to their project sponsors.
Sean Martin, a professor of practice in the department of civil and environmental engineering and the faculty adviser for the CEE Senior Design Program, said, “Our Senior Design event marks the culmination of our student’s dedication and commitment to becoming civil and environmental engineers. This event is not just a showcase of final capstone projects; it symbolizes the bridge between academia and the profession.”
“Senior Design is a crucial platform, propelling students from the classroom to the workplace, where theory meets application,” he went on.
Ten student teams, guided by experienced engineering mentors and faculty, presented their capstone design projects in site design and subdivision, building and transportation structures, water treatment and roadway design.
Congratulations to our young engineers for embracing the challenge and shaping the future of their profession!
