FAMU-FSU Engineering Researchers Receive Esteemed NSF Awards

Two FAMU-FSU College of Engineering researchers won prestigious National Science Foundation early-career awards designed to celebrate emerging leaders in their fields. 

Juyeong Choi, an assistant professor in civil and environmental engineering and Lichun Li, an assistant professor in industrial and manufacturing engineering, received Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) awards and will receive a five-year grant from the NSF.

Tallahassee Middle School Teams Capture Top Honors in National Youth Cyber Defense Competition

In a sweeping victory, two Tallahassee middle schools scored first and second place in the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition. The students made it to the semifinals and if they are successful have the chance to compete in the nationals this spring.

The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering sponsored the Cyber Patriot teams. The teams are two of the 75 middle school teams who participated from Florida this year. There are over 5,264 teams in the nationwide K-12 program.

CREST Post-Doc Makes Immediate Impact Through Novel Materials for Extrusion Processing

After just one year on the job, Balaji Krishna Kumar has made an immediate impact on the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering’s research culture. Kumar is a postdoctoral researcher at the National Science Foundation-CREST program at the college and works with Florida A&M University doctoral students and undergraduate program interns on novel materials research.

Online Masters in Engineering Program Debuts in Top 50 for National Rankings

The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering’s online master’s program in engineering, which started three years ago, made its debut in the U.S. News rankings at No. 49 among public programs and No. 62 overall.

“We are thrilled about the debut of our online engineering programs in the Top 50, so soon after the program’s inception,” said Zhiyong “Richard” Liang, the college’s interim associate dean for research and graduate studies. “This ranking is a testament to the quality of the programs and the hard work of our students, faculty and staff.”
