Top administrators at Florida A&M University celebrated their outstanding principal investigators and researchers during the 13th Annual Principal Investigators Appreciation and Researchers of the Year Awards Luncheon in April 2024. Subramanian Ramarkrishnan, Ph.D., a faculty member in the Department of Chemical & Biomedical Engineering at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering and FAMU, was named a Distinguished Researcher by the university.
Ramarkrishnan is a 3M Distinguished Professor of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at the joint college. His research focuses on the physics, chemistry and processing of complex fluids to create valuable materials for engineering applications. As director of the NSF-funded CREST Center on Additive Manufacturing, he has led projects with over $10 million in funding.
Huijun Li, Ph.D. is an associate professor in the Department of Psychology at the FAMU College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities. She was also given the Distinguished Researcher Award. Her research focuses on culture-specific beliefs about the causes of mental illness, stigma and barriers to services among individuals from diverse backgrounds. Since arriving at FAMU in 2017, Li has secured over $7 million in grant funding while teaching a full course load. Li has published 50 scholarly publications.
John S. Luque, Ph.D. is a FAMU Institute of Public Health professor at the FAMU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science. He was named the 2024 Excellent Researcher in STEM. His research focuses on community-based cancer education interventions that aim to reduce health disparities in medically underserved and racial/ethnic minority populations. He has secured nearly $2 million in grant funding since 2018 as a principal investigator at FAMU. Luque has published over 85 scientific papers and book chapters in social behavioral sciences, medicine and public health.
Shyam Kattel, Ph.D., was named 2024 Emerging Researcher. Kattel is an assistant professor in the Department of Physics at the FAMU College of Science and Technology. His research focuses on advancing and applying computational modeling methods to design new materials for energy and sustainability applications. He has published more than 70 peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals. Kattel’s publications have received significant attention in the research community, and they have received more than 10,000 Google Scholar citations.
