The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering has named Yassir AbdelRazig, Ph.D., as its inaugural Associate Dean for Strategic Operations.
AbdelRazig, a distinguished professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, brings extensive experience in construction engineering and infrastructure resilience to this newly created leadership position.
“I am excited to assume this leadership role,” AbdelRazig said. “I look forward to collaborating with our stakeholders to advance the college towards achieving the goals we’ve outlined for the next five years.”
In his new role, AbdelRazig will partner with the college’s leadership team to identify strategic opportunities and address challenges outlined in the 2025-2029 strategic plan. His responsibilities include overseeing unit performance reviews, developing student success initiatives, and developing and implementing new policies to for the organization.
Dean Suvranu De created the position because of the new strategic plan’s importance to the college’s overall trajectory.
“Our strategic plan outlines bold ideas for our next five years,” De said. “Yassir is the right person at the right time, and his work will be important to keep us on course and help fully develop the plan’s ideas into actionable, measurable projects that will propel us to success.”
Distinguished Academic Career
AbdelRazig, who joined the college after completing his doctorate at Purdue University in 1999, has established himself as a leader in construction engineering education and research. His expertise spans construction engineering and management, infrastructure resilience, and sustainable construction practices. He teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses, focusing on innovative approaches to construction engineering and green building technologies.
His academic excellence has been recognized with both the Florida A&M University Teaching Innovation Award and the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering Teaching Award. AbdelRazig maintains active involvement in several professional organizations, including the Construction Research Council and the American Society of Civil Engineers. He also serves on various Transportation Research Board Committees.
Research and Professional Leadership
Throughout his career, AbdelRazig has contributed significantly to the engineering field through his service as a reviewer for the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Department of Defense (DOD). His expertise is further recognized through his work as a reviewer for multiple scientific journals and book publishers.
The appointment aligns with the college’s commitment to advancing engineering education and research while fostering student success. As Associate Dean for Strategic Operations, AbdelRazig will play a crucial role in implementing initiatives that support the college’s vision for engineering excellence and innovation.
