Professor Sungmoon Jung and Associate Professor Maxim Dulebenets from the joint college’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering were recognized for their outstanding dedication to teaching excellence.

Jung received the 2024-25 University Teaching Award for Outstanding Graduate Teaching, acknowledging his commitment to challenging students intellectually, serving as a positive role model and implementing innovative instructional techniques.

Dulebenets earned the 2024-25 University Teaching Award for Teaching and Mentoring for his efforts to guide students and foster intellectual curiosity. Like Jung, Dulebenets was selected by a faculty and student committee that reviewed nominations and supporting materials.

Both awards reflect the multidimensional nature of teaching excellence, emphasizing the importance of respect, innovation and mentorship in higher education. These achievements highlight not only the talents of the individual professors but also affirm the college's commitment to cultivating an exceptional educational environment.

“We are so proud that two of our faculty received these awards,” said Lisa Spainhour, professor and chair of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. “Our department strives to place teaching and mentoring at the center of everything we do. Dr. Dulebenets and Dr. Jung have contributed so much to these efforts, and I know they will continue to do so. It is wonderful to see them both receiving this well-deserved recognition.”

The professors will be formally recognized at an awards reception on April 22 at 5:30 p.m. in the Oglesby Student Union Ballrooms.
