Each year, the Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) showcases some of the best and the brightest scientists and engineers during their annual BEYA STEM Global Competitive Conference in Washington, D.C. This year, Dr. Nathan Brooks, 2004 graduate of the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering won the award for Senior Technology Fellow from the conference.
Dr. Nathan Brooks, is currently working for Boeing as an associate technical fellow, technical lead engineer. In addition, he is a member of the electronic and information solution’s technical directorate for the Boeing Company and its subsidiary, Argon ST.
Dr. Leanard Tung, a professor of Electrical Engineering at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, chuckled when he spoke of Nathan, the student. “I thought sometimes Nathan wasn’t paying attention in class at times. Then he surprised me, he was listening to everything absorbing the information like a sponge. He turned out to be an exceptional student and continues to impress us as his career soars.”
Dr. Nathan Brooks work has been key to several advanced capability program contracts from the military, government and commercial customers. He was the recent recipient of fellowships from Boeing, the National Science Foundation, and the NASA Jenkins Program and the first HBCU Florida A&M University doctorial graduate of electrical engineering from the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, in Tallahassee, Florida.
