Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE)

“The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is a professional student organization dedicated to enrichment and outreach for students at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. The organization is committed to providing members with all tools and resources necessary to succeed in not just the oil and gas industry, but all academic endeavors. Members of all disciplines are welcome! The chapter is a student chapter of SPE International (SPEI), which provides further opportunity with professional membership. SPE International is the largest individual-member organization serving managers, engineers, scientists, and other professionals worldwide in the upstream segment of the oil and gas industry. The mission of SPEI is to collect, disseminate, and exchange technical knowledge concerning the exploration, development, and production of oil and gas resources, and related technologies for the public benefit. Also, SPEI aims to provide opportunities for professionals to enhance their technical and professional competence.

As a student, one of the major benefits of joining SPE is networking and employment opportunities. As a matter of fact, SPE has already been the link for several students obtaining jobs in the oil and gas industry with members working at companies such as Shell, Exxon, and Halliburton. The chapter helps develop technical knowledge through guest speakers and presentations. In addition, members attend technical conferences, student symposiums, section meetings, and tour chemical plants. Other events the organization hosts include volunteering in the community, social events, intramural sports, and more.”
