Innovation Park

Innovation Park is home to the largest and highest-powered magnet laboratory in the world- The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (National MagLab). A staple of the Park since 1993, the National MagLab houses a fleet of world-record magnets that help researchers define the properties of new materials, find energy solutions and illuminate the mechanisms that underlie life itself. The MagLab expands the boundaries of scientific knowledge and continues to advance basic science, engineering, and technology in the 21st century.

Innovation Park is also a global hotspot for energy, aero-propulsion, advanced power systems, superconductivity, and high-performance materials. Several research institutes in the park are leaders in their industry and have state-of-the-art equipment that most other research institutes don’t have access to.

Jobs After Graduation

Our engineering graduates can work in a variety of sectors, including private, government, academic, and industry.  Our graduates work at companies such as Chevron, Lockheed Martin, Nissan North America, Toyota, Honda, Johnson & Johnson, The Aerospace Corporation, Progress Energy, General Electric (GE), Shell Oil Company, Tesla and Walt Disney Company. Companies seek FAMU-FSU engineers because our curriculum is aligned with company needs and the College graduates top students that are prepared to solve some of the world’s most complex problems.

Partnering Companies

FAMU-FSU College of Engineering partners with the Florida Department of Transportation, Pepsico, Chevron, Humana, Shell Oil Company, Siemens, Caterpillar Inc., and many other companies.  Our partnering companies attend semi-annual career fairs, provide on-site interviews for internships and jobs for students, and host workshops on the COE campus.

Innovative Research and Grants

College of Engineering receives grants that provide internships for our students as well as advancements in research.

COE Civil and Environmental Engineering Department received a grant in 2017 for Collaborative HBCU Research for almost $250,000.  The goal is to broaden participation and strengthen capacity in interdisciplinary engineering model development.  

COE Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department received a grant for RISE: High-Performance Manufacturing from The National Science Foundation in 2017 for almost $605,000.  RISE Engineering provides turnkey energy solutions, energy services, and energy efficiency improvements that decrease your home and business expenses.
