Some of our students at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering were affected by the devastation in the Bahamas from Hurricane Dorian. These students may have homes, families and loved ones still on the island or scattered in its aftermath. I want to say to each of you affected that while we can’t know how you feel, we do know you are in a stressful time and are perhaps dealing with personal devastation on many levels.
Please remember that your peers, faculty and staff care about you and want to support you during this time. Both FAMU and FSU have counseling centers that offer services 24/7 and I encourage you to reach out to get help dealing with the emotions and stress associated with this tragedy. If you have specific needs that the college can perhaps help with, please contact Dr. Linda DeBrunner in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
FAMU Office of Counseling Services – The office is located at 636 Gamble Street, across from FAMU Village residential hall. To schedule an appointment, students can walk-in or contact the office by phone at (850) 599-3145. You may choose a specific counselor or allow the administrative assistant to choose a counselor for you.
FSU University Counseling Center – To see a counselor, visit the center on the second floor of Askew Student Life Center, Suite 201, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can contact the UCC After-Hours Crisis Line for you or a fellow student any time the UCC is closed, including on school breaks and during holidays. Have your FSU ID ready when you call. Call (850) 644-TALK(8255).
