The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the Florida A&M University-Florida State University College of Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in sustainable energy systems, electric power systems, electric transportation, cyber-physical systems security, and closely related electrical engineering areas of research, in the city of Tallahassee, Florida. We are seeking faculty candidates for an assistant professor position, however, exceptional candidates at higher ranks will be considered.
Candidates must possess an earned Ph.D. in electrical engineering, or computer engineering, or a closely related discipline, and demonstrate the documented potential for outstanding research in their field of expertise. Successful candidates are expected to develop research programs that are internationally recognized with significant and sustained funding, incorporate interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers across campus, and demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in engineering education. Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and supervising undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral researchers are expected.
The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering is the nexus of two major public universities, each with a distinct mission but focused on world-class engineering education and research. Created by the Florida Legislature in 1982, the joint institution is the college of engineering for both Florida A&M and Florida State universities. This unique combination of focus, resources and mission from our parent institutions has created on our campus a truly innovative atmosphere that leverages the benefits of the traditional HBCU model with the innovations of an R-1 public research university. After completing pre-requisites at their home institution, FAMU and FSU students learn, study and research together at our independent campus with joint-appointed faculty and staff. Students graduate from their enrolling university and from the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. Both FAMU and FSU are part of the State University System of Florida and are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Additionally, all seven (7) of the college’s eligible undergraduate degree programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.
The ECE Department has a dynamic group of 30 faculty members, 90+ graduate students, ~450 undergraduate students, and annual research expenditures of $17M in 2023. The Department has outstanding research facilities housed within the Center for Advanced Power Systems (CAPS) and the college building in the areas of electrical and computer engineering. The Department and CAPS have a collaborative and collegial work environment and a strong dedication to diversity and excellence in research and education.
