Kevin Garvey graduated from the FAMU-Florida State University College of Engineering in 2006 with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, and stayed an additional year to earn his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2007. From there he joined the U.S. government working on satellite and launch programs, while attending Virginia Tech after work hours to receive his second M.S. degree in Engineering Administration in 2009. After five years working as a Satellite Structures Engineer, Garvey was selected to become the Chief Engineer for Satellite Spacecraft Assembly, Integration, Test, and Launch. His efforts were instrumental in launching numerous satellite systems which provide high-value mission data to the warfighter
In 2012, Garvey received an Executive Leadership certification after attending the Graduate School USA in Washington, DC. In spring of 2012, Garvey was accepted as a Ph.D. candidate into George Washington University’s accelerated Ph.D. program for Engineering Management and Systems Engineering. He received his Ph.D. degree in 2014. Garvey changed jobs in 2014 to become the Chief of Mechanical Operations where he leads teams of mechanical engineers, contractors, and tradesmen in four different mechanical shops for the US government developing various types of parts and components.
