2019 Mechanical engineering: Chair’s Service Award-Joel Wayne House

Dr. Joel House has been the liaison for the Air Force Research Laboratories (AFRL) at Eglin Air Force Base (AFB) for many years.  He has sponsored or coordinated the sponsorship of many senior design projects throughout the years and has been a Mechanical Engineering Advisory Council (MEAC) member for more than 10 years.

He currently serves a senior engineer for the AFRL, Munitions Directorate, at Eglin Air force Base in Eglin, Florida.

Joel has over 30 years of experience in strategic planning, warhead mechanics and design, training and supervising, constitutive theories, computational mechanics, failure analysis and ballistic experiments. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from California State University. His master’s and his doctorate degrees are in Materials Science Engineering from the University of Kentucky. Dr. House is also the author of 15 conference papers, 6 journal articles and 4 technical reports.

Dr. House is the recipient of numerous commendations and acknowledgements, special act and service awards. He has also received the United States Government Exemplary Service Medal, is a Gulf Coast Council Distinguished Scouter and an Award of Merit winner. Joel has mentored numerous projects executed by engineering students at FAMU, FSU and FIU. The Mechanical Engineering department of the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering is proud to recognize Dr. Joel House as a recipient of the 3rd Annual Chair’s Service Award, in recognition of all his efforts and support of our college and students.
