Capt. Jason Lloyd entered the Navy in June 1986 as an Electrician’s Mate, was soon selected for the NROTC program and graduated from Florida State University in 1992 with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering through the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. His first ship assignment was USS BAINBRIDGE (CGN-25) as the Damage Control Assistant and subsequently as a defueling Shift Engineer.
Lloyd then attended Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey California and earned his M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1998. He has progressed through many increasingly responsible roles within the U.S Navy, including Chemistry and Radiological Controls Assistant, Assistant Project Superintendent for the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN-7), Deputy Project Superintendent for the USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN-75), USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN-74) Maintenance Coordinator and In-Service Principal Assistant Program Manager (PMS 312E), where he led the organizational realignment of the In-Service aircraft carrier program and as Refueling Complex Overhaul Program Manager’s Representative (PMR) in June, 2009. In 2012, he assumed duties as the New Construction PMR and supervised the construction of the USS GERALD R. FORD (CVN 78) and planning for the USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CVN 79).
In 2013, as the ship’s first Reactor Officer, Lloyd led his department through the qualification and certification process for the A1B plant culminating in a highly successful Reactor Safeguards Examination, Physics, and Power Range Test programs. He transferred to Naval Sea Systems Command as the Executive Assistant to the Commander (NAVSEA 00EA) in 2016.
Currently, Lloyd has been selected as the 32nd Commanding Officer of the Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Newport News and assumed command on 29 June, 2017.
In April 2018, Cpt. Lloyd was recognized as a Distinguished Alumni by the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering Department of Mechanical Engineering.
