Florida A&M University’s Danielle Jones, a mechanical engineering student in the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, was selected to participate in the Citizens for Space Exploration (CSE) program held May 15-17 in Washington, D.C.
Jones is a junior who has plans to go into the aerospace industry. Because of Jones’ dedication to space exploration, she received the opportunity to intern at the John F. Kennedy Space Center this summer, which is one of 10 NASA field centers.
“I hope to gain more knowledge as to what current legislatures are doing and are planning to do to aid in human space exploration, and also to share with them how important space exploration is to me and other students like me,” Jones said before departing for the trip.
Jones was among several students handpicked to meet with government leaders.
This year’s trip to Washington, D.C., marks the 27th annual visit for CSE. With a goal to showcase how students’ passion for aerospace discovery and technology can influence policy, the purpose of the visit was to inform Congress that not just astronauts and engineers rely on NASA.
CSE is a multi-state organization comprised of private citizens, small business owners, students, teachers, space and non-space business representatives, and county and municipal officials. Its members support America’s investment in human space exploration, with a mission to promote awareness of the benefits of America’s Human Space Exploration Program and support for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
