CEE Grad Student Seminar: Sue Zheng
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Transportation Infrastructure: From Pavement Performance Modeling to Predictive Maintenance
This event is sponsored by FAMU-FSU College of Engineering Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering.
Abstract: Artificial intelligence and machine learning are redefining how we design, manage, and sustain transportation infrastructure. This seminar highlights real-world applications of AI in pavement performance modeling, materials characterization, and predictive maintenance. Drawing on the Florida Department of Transportation’s initiatives and national research efforts, it explores how diverse datasets—from FWD and GPR to climate and traffic—can be integrated into intelligent digital twins that enable proactive decision-making. Participants will gain a practical understanding of the AI workflow—from data collection to model deployment—and discuss emerging challenges in data governance, transparency, and ethics. The session concludes with a look ahead at the skills and opportunities shaping the next generation of engineers in an AI-enabled world.
