Abstract: Our group conducts research on polymer synthesis based on organic synthesis. In particular, we design and prepare monomers by exploiting selective reactivity, and subsequently achieve precise polymer synthesis by utilizing selective reactivity again. Recently, we have been interested in divergent reactions that enable the synthesis of various products from a single starting material.

This seminar mainly highlights the stereoselective synthesis of enyne-containing monomers. We discuss cascade enyne metathesis polymerization for precise stereostructures, sequence-controlled copolymers, and brush polymers. We also present chemically recyclable systems in which polymerization via ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) and depolymerization via ring-closing metathesis depolymerization (RCMD) are selectively controlled by reaction conditions. Additionally, we will describe the synthesis of two structurally distinct bicyclic monomers from a single monomer precursor, and discuss how each monomer exhibits different ROMP behaviors.
