FAMU chemical engineering alumn reaches back to help future entrepreneurs

While pursuing his undergraduate degree at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) Edward Benson joined his Kappa Alpha Psi brothers in teaching themselves the HTML computer language and then building the alphaxi.com website. The new website helped host and promote concerts and special events at FAMU, among which were some of the best-featured, high profile acts. The page went officially online May 05, 1995 and was featured in the April 11, 1996 edition of the FAMUAN newspaper. The site was purchased with the domain name alphaxi.com and the latest version is still going strong. Benson was president of the Alpha Xi chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated in which he held both local and national leadership positions, he elevated that chapter to national prominence.

Benson continued to feed his entrepreneur spirit by starting Ticket Annex of which he is the President and Chief Operations Officer. He is responsible for initiating and developing the company’s Internet and emerging wireless technology. Prior to launching Ticket Annex, LLC, Benson’s corporate experiences had been in senior management in the manufacturing and chemical process industries with two prominent fortune 100 companies. His responsibilities included project and operations management, process optimizations- managing and implementing red line changes geared towards improving productivity and efficiency of the current process, managing client support functions and implementing a customer loyalty program.

Benson graduated from Florida A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. He is also a certified Six-Sigma Black Belt Engineer - a data driven approach to problem solving to deliver world-class level results. Benson also graduated from Duke University with his Master’s in Business Administration.

At the 2016 Homecoming Benson was a part of the HBCU Entrepreneurship Summit Tour.
